Biography

Ethan Coston, PhD (they/he) is an Associate Professor of Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. For more than 15 years, Ethan has been collaborating on and leading inter-and-transdisciplinary projects that develop and implement community-based, educational, and institutional programs to support thriving among people, who—like himself—are survivors of violence, LGBTQIA+, disabled and/or neurodivergent, and systems impacted. Currently, they are PI on a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Pioneering Ideas grant working on SOGI metascience and data justice, Co-I on an NICHD R01 building a multidimensional scale for sexual health and wellbeing, Associate Editor (LGBTQ Health) for the American Journal of Public Health, and member of the Board of Directors for the Virginia League for Planned Parenthood.  When not teaching, engaging in public science pursuits, or writing, you can find Ethan enjoying the local music scene, making Midwestern casseroles for community gatherings, or hanging out at home with their elderly dog.
