MD/MPH for Non-Emory Medical School Students

Students in good standing at any fully-accredited U.S. medical school are welcome to apply to Rollins for an MPH year as part of their medical school experience. It is strongly recommended that the MPH year follow the clinical year of medical school—usually the third year in conventional medical school curricula—but students may attend Rollins at any time prior to completion of their medical studies and the receipt of their medical degree.

The program is not available to those who have received their MD degree. Admission to this program and the curriculum to be pursued is considered on an individual basis. However, the program is generally structured around 32-35 credit hours at Rollins over two semesters (fall and spring).

All MD/MPH students (from Emory and non-Emory medical schools) may pursue the same courses of study while at Rollins. These programs are abbreviated from those usually required on the basis of work completed in the medical school that allows waiver of similar material at Rollins. This work in the medical school typically takes place both before and after the year spent at Rollins. Therefore, the MPH degree is awarded by Rollins after the student presents evidence of completion of all medical school requirements at the home medical school.

How to Apply

Complete the online application process at www.sophas.org. Make sure you select the MD/MPH program designation with the desired department when you enter the program information.

In order to complete the application process you should have the following items sent to SOPHAS:

  1. Three letters of recommendation.
  2. Official transcripts from all institutions attended, including current institution, in signed/sealed envelope.

Please arrange to have the following items sent directly to Rollins' Office of Admission:

  • Download the good standing verification form and submit it to the appropriate dean or administrator in the Medical School that you now attend to attest that you have successfully completed the courses to date, that you are a student in good standing at the time of application to Rollins, and are eligible to return to the home institution after completion of your MPH. Once the form is completed, forward it on to Rollins.
  • A list of courses intended to take when returning to the home school.
