Football is Medicine Logo

The Football Is Medicine (FIM) Global Network is a global scientific forum organizing various activities, including an annual conference, workshops, coaching courses, PhD courses and events around the world. The FIM platform was established in 2018 by Professor Peter Krustrup and a group of international colleagues to consolidate regional research networks and multicenter collaborations. Today, FIM has approximately 250 scholars from 22 countries on five continents contributing to the generation of evidence about the physical, mental, and social health benefits of Football and other team-based recreational sports. A summary of the evidence related to Emory’s Hubert Department of Global Health is the hub of FIM/Soccer 4 Health research, educational and programmatic activities in North America, led by Drs Felipe Lobelo and Jennifer Frediani .

Please provide a structured abstract including Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion. Please put ABSTRACT in the subject header of the email. You will be notified within 7 days of acceptance and presentation format (either a poster or oral).

The purpose of this scientific conference is to bring research and programmatic stakeholders from around the globe together to present on new findings related to the evidence and implementation of interventions using recreational football/soccer, and other team-based recreational sports, as a tool for the prevention, management, and treatment of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, cancer, osteoporosis, aging, and other health outcomes.

FIM Pre-Conference Training Workshop; Wednesday June 7th, 2023; 1 to 8 pm; Detailed Information

The workshop consists of 4 hours of theory (lectures and pre-post knowledge assessment) and 2 hours of practical instruction (FIM drills and instruction on a soccer field). A certificate of completion will be given to those that attend both workshop components and receive >70% grade on the post-assessment.

Intended Audience: Football/soccer coaches, physical trainers, exercise science and physiologists, health-sector students, health and fitness professionals, researchers, physical education teachers and other educators and stakeholders interested in learning the practical aspects of delivering FIM interventions for various populations including children and youth, patients with NCDs or risk factors and the general public.

Preliminary Agenda – Wednesday June 7th

  • 1:00-5:00 pm - Theoretical classroom section
  • 5:00-6:00 pm - Snack break, change and walk to nearby athletic field (10-15 mins).
  • 6:00-8:00 pm - FIM Soccer drills and games practical session (grass soccer field). In case of inclement weather, the session will be held at a basketball/futsal gym.

Attire: Casual/Comfortable/Athletic. In addition, please bring appropriate footwear for practicing soccer (turf/hard ground cleats or plastic soft ground cleats) and futsal (tennis shoes or futsal/indoor soccer shoes)
