MSPH in Health Services Research

Students considering future doctoral work or a career in applied health sciences research are encouraged to apply to the master of science in public health (MSPH) in health services research.

The MSPH is an intensive program that not only teaches core public health concepts, research theory, and methodology, but also in-depth statistical analysis and programming with SAS and STATA. The MSPH offers a small, intimate program with one-on-one instruction and mentorship opportunities.

Admission Requirements

In addition to the SOPHAS application, all applicants will need to submit the following materials when applying to Rollins:

  • College transcripts
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Personal statement
  • Resume
  • Average GPA of 3.32
  • MSPH Average GRE score of 159 Verbal, 159 Quantitative, and 4.29 Analytic Writing. PLEASE NOTE: The submission of GRE scores are optional for all candidates applying to MPH and MSPH programs for fall 2025 admission.  However, you can submit scores for review if you took the GRE.

HPM applicants should also possess strong quantitative skills.

48  credit hours, successful completion of an  applied practice experience  and an integrative learning experience

Applied Practice Experience

All Rollins MPH and MSPH students are required to complete a 200-400 hour Applied Practice Experience. The APE can be completed in one semester or spread over two or more semesters. This practical experience is designed to enhance the student’s understanding and application of knowledge and research findings to public health settings by providing an opportunity to gain practical experience. Public health work environments include advocacy groups, medical care delivery organizations, municipal and state health departments, and federal agencies such as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Integrative Learning Experience - Thesis

Each MSPH student is expected to complete an original research thesis under the guidance of HPM professors. Common research areas include: mental health, women’s health, workplace wellness, tobacco, cancer, obesity, technology adoption
